About Crystal Springs Books
|
In 1986, Jim and Lillian Grant, co-founded a fledgling professional development company that would later be known
as Staff Development for Educators (SDE).
During the seminars the Grants offered, teachers often asked where they could buy the books that had been mentioned. That was the
beginning of Crystal Springs Books. |
Like SDE, Crystal Springs Books started in
Jim and Lillian’s
New Hampshire farmhouse. In fact, this newly formed venture was named after
the still-functioning carved-granite horse-watering trough at the entrance
to their home. Because Lillian’s dining room had been transformed into a business office
(and she refused to give up her living room), the books were first stored
in an unheated room attached to the garage bay. With New England weather being what it is,
there was no shortage of curled books on steamy summer days, and packing
books in the winter was a finger-numbing experience. |
| Today, Crystal Springs Books is a leading provider of educator resources,
offering hundreds of titles from many of the nation’s top education publishers.
Crystal Springs Books also publishes its own best-selling books in addition
to a variety of classroom learning resources. These products are now stored
in a 19,000-square-foot, climate-controlled facility—and Lillian has her
dining room back. |
What
hasn’t changed is the commitment of Crystal Springs Books to provide educators
with the finest products to support classroom instruction. We listened
to the needs of educators many years ago, and we are still listening. |
